About the event
This is a performance where Juhán Niila Stålka and Jasmine Skog will interpret stories from Jokkmokk thorugh traditional sámi joiking and contemporary dance. They will bring the stories about the people, mountains and animals from Jokkmokk to life through movement and sound.
The name Bådtselit is julevsámi for the action of an animal shaking its body, and the stories about the animals will be a reaccuring theme throughout the performance.
You will also get the opportunity to ask questions about sámi culture and try some dried reindeer meat.

Jokkmokk’s Alpine Garden, or Jokkmokks Fjällträdgård, is a unique botanical garden. It showcases a diverse collection of alpine and subarctic plants, offering a glimpse into the rich flora of the region. The garden is designed to educate visitors about the native plant species and their adaptations to the harsh Arctic climate. Visitors can explore various themed sections, including rock gardens, wetland areas, and traditional Sami plantings, making it a serene and educational destination for nature enthusiasts and anyone interested in the natural beauty of the Arctic environment.
Juhán Niila Stålka
Juhán Niila is a storyteller and joiker. He weaves together old stories from around Jokkmokk with contemporary issues such as colonization and climate change. Always with a sparkle in his eyes he mixes humour and seriousness in an elgant way.
Jasmine Skog
Jasmine is a dancer and choreographer from Jokkmokk with a versatile dance education from Danscenter in Stockholm. Jokkmokk is a place where nature and culture are tied together, and this is where she finds her greatest source of inspiration.

If the weather is uncertain or rainy, bring a rain jacket or poncho. Wear comfortable shoes for walking and standing outside. Dress in layers to adjust for temperature changes and wear clothes covering arms and legs to protect against mosquitoes. Avoid dark clothing that attracts mosquitoes and consider using insect repellent. Choose clothes that allow free movement, and a hat can offer protection from sun and light rain. In case of severe weather with heavy wind or rain, the event will be relocated to an indoor venue for Sámi Storytelling and Joiking at the same day and time. Attendees will be notified of any changes due to weather.
If the event must be canceled, a full refund will be provided. -
Pathways: Please note that the pathways in Ájtte Fjällträdgård (The Alpine Garden) are dirt and some areas may not be fully accessible by wheelchair.

We just ask you to consider our other guests and if you know that your animal can be stressed with people, new enviorments and singing (joiking) they might be better off staying at home. -
